1 Corinthians 13:1-13
(1 Corinthians
13:1-13)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and
have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and
understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me
nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh
not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth
not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth
all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;
whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it
shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we
prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect
is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I
was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child:
but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now
we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but
then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Chapter 13 is
a word that reveals and makes us realize what love is. Without love, spiritual
gifts and plausible words are actually just loud noises. It is said that the
power of faith and spiritual knowledge that fell in love is also fleeting, and
even if you give all of yourself and give relief, you are far from the reward
of God's glory. All that is to be a religious act that appears and is performed
on love. It reminds us that the gifts and salvation upon which love is based is
what God approves. Therefore, even without love, spiritual gifts or the power
of faith can appear and provide relief, but it does not please God. The core of
that love is a to save the spirit.
『 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth
not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not
her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth
not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all
things, hopeth all things, endureth all things..』
The
commandments of love are God's love and brotherly love. This is in saving the
spirit. It is love for God that my spirit is alive, and love for my brother is
what makes my brother's spirit alive. That is why the process of saving the
spirit is love. The first content of love is long-suffering. In other words,
love is long-suffering. In long-suffering, love is embodied and finally bears
the fruit of love. Nevertheless, it is not as easy as it sounds to be patient
for a long time. Also, the words that follow long-suffering teach us what love
is.
It is love to
be meek, not envious, not proud, not proud, not rude, not seeking
self-interest, not anger, not thinking of evil, not rejoicing in injustice,
rejoicing in truth, and patient waiting and enduring. to be. It is said that it
is not such an easy way to bring those who have left God to return to God.
『 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies,
they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But
when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done
away. When
I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a
child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now
we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but
then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 』
Saving one's
spirit is to become the most precious love.
